As a continuation of the Risk Manager Series, please join Scott Ritto, V.P. Risk Management of Kilroy Realty Corporation and Mary Daly, Actuary with Oliver Wyman for an "Actuarial 101" presentation for risk managers. Actuarial reports affect how liabilities are accrued, how collateral is established under a loss-sensitive casualty program as well as how risk transfer premium rates are determined under guaranteed cost policies. This presentation will cover:

Explaining some basic actuarial terms
Explaining the role of an actuary
Explaining some basic actuarial methodologies
Explaining how some internal company changes might impact actuarial methodologies

Scott Ritto
V.P. Risk Management, Kilroy Realty
Scott graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 1991 with Bachelor of Arts Degrees is Political Science and History. Scott has also obtained his Associate in Risk Management designation, and has recently became one of the first class of RIMS-CRMP designation holders. Scott has twenty-six years of experience in the Insurance and Risk Management Industry, which started in 1991 in the Emergency Medical/Ambulance industry. He has held risk management positions in a number of industries, including transportation, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction, stevedoring, theaters, shopping malls, and property development and management. He currently is employed with Kilroy Realty Corporation, serving as their Vice President, Risk Management, where he is responsible for all matters risk management. Kilroy owns, operates and develops Class A commercial office buildings and mixed-use properties, and currently maintains a three person Risk Management Department, which may continue to grow over time.

Scott currently is a member of the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Chapter of RIMS, serving since 1999. He also serves on the Membership and Chapter Services Committee for the RIMS Society, as well as the National Real Estate Client Advisory Council and Risk Management Advisory Panel for AIG. He also serves on the Risk Management Executive Councils for FM Global and Sompo insurance companies.

Mary Daly
Actuary, Oliver Wyman
Mary Daly is a Principal at Oliver Wyman Actuarial Consulting, Inc. She is located in the Los Angeles office where she provides property/casualty consulting services to a variety of clients. Mary has worked with a wide range of coverages, including workers' compensation, general liability and auto liability. Projects have included reserve analyses and loss projection studies.

She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Experience with most commercial lines of business, including, Workers' Compensation, Auto Liability, General Liability, Products Liability and Medical Professional Liability
Allocation studies - design and implementation of programs that allocate the cost of risk across cost centers, operating divisions or group members
Feasibility studies for insurance captives - actuarial assistance in evaluating alternative risk financing mechanisms
Professional Liability issues, captive insurance operations and construction defect issues
Pricing and loss forecasts - actuarial analysis to determine loss costs, funding requirements and premiums
