This position in Jacobs Global Risk Management team, will be based in Los Angeles and will work closely with the Legal Department and play a critical role in investigating, managing and resolving liability, workers compensation and property claims, primarily in the Americas but also internationally, as required as well as supporting in house counsel on professional liability and employment practices claims. An additional, but important element of this role will involve working with Jacobs actuaries to assist them in the reporting of reserves for our self-insured risks.

The position will also include day-to-day operational activities including the preparation of insurance renewal submissions and managing and reporting from the company’s databases, where exposure and claims data is held.

Job Responsibilities:

Job Description:

  • Receive, review and record new claims to evaluate and investigate policy coverage, liability and damages.
  • Conduct thorough investigations including obtaining necessary documents.
  • For claims in litigation, partnering with both internal and external legal counsel to develop and execute effective and cost-efficient litigation management plans.
  • Performing claim identification, evaluation and providing notice to insurers as required.
  • Coordinating and managing communication with underwriters, brokers and external vendors.
  • Analyzing claims information in the corporate platforms to ensure timely, comprehensive and accurate reporting of matters to insurers.
  • Working with Associate General Counsel, Risk, Claims & Litigation Management to communicate with insurers and advisors in noticing and monitoring cases.
  • Tracking and analyzing claims payments against self-insured retentions and producing internal reports for Legal, Risk and Finance.
  • Other projects and responsibilities as the business requires.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • Evidence of continuing education (i.e. industry designations) desired.

Minimum Experience/Knowledge:
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience of handling liability, workers compensation and property claims.
  • Advanced understanding of insurance principles.
  • Motivated and happy working in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify, investigate and effectively solve problems, seeking guidance as necessary.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to advise and influence.
  • Familiar with self-insurance strategies and actuarial analysis to develop reserves.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
  • Detail orientated and able to produce timely and accurate work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience in the use of software to build reports and analyze data.
  • Ability to work independently but make contribute to the Global Risk Management team and Jacobs.
  • Handle responsibilities with integrity and the highest standards of professionalism.
